Full Circle

It was just another email, junk email to be sure. Surprised that it did not just dump into the Spam Folder, she opened it anyway.

The background was red, the same as the You Tube Channel set up as a Red Flag for concern. Immediately, her eyes gravitated to the content. Independent.

At first, there was nothing but a dull moment, another item for Trash. Slowly, as her eyes scanned left to right and top to bottom, things changed. By the time the end of the email approached, the Advertisers had their pull.

It was not until she came down with Chicken Pox at age 16, that some one told her that she could write. She recalls the Essay Composition question, in readiness for the English Placement Exam at Pierce Junior College in Woodland Hills, California. "If you could choose a time and a place, where would you put yourself, and why?"

So she chose a farm. A large space of acreage with greenery and flowers. Few places with such wide open space existed then, far into the future of this writing in 1976. The air was polluted, acid rain washed the vehicles in the big city, and a plethora of chemicals were ubiquitous in the air and waters. So she put herself and the reader on this farm, this little farm with real red apples and no pesticides; in the writing, it was now a big farm of ancient times and proportions.

The school wrote her a letter. They spoke of being a Journalism Major, writing for the School Newspaper, and applying for Writing Scholarships.

But Chicken Pox invaded all but her very heart, both emotionally and physically. Forced to withdraw from school, she traded her pencils and desks for aspirin and oatmeal baths. She never went back.

But today, she submitted her Application. Three, actually.
